Breadcrumbs do two jobs: they tell the shopper where the product sits in the catalogue and how to get back, and they give search engines a crawlable path from the collection to the product.
How to implement it
Render a trail of Home → collection → product on the product page and on collection pages, generated from the real collection hierarchy rather than hardcoded labels, and mark it up as BreadcrumbList JSON-LD. Keep the product’s primary collection consistent so the trail does not change between visits.
How to verify it
Open a product reached from two different collections and confirm the trail shows the collection the shopper came from, then run the URL through the Rich Results Test to see the breadcrumb parsed.
